This medium-bodied, German-style Schwarzbier, also known as a Dark Lager, has subtle, roasted malt flavors and aromas of dark chocolate, but without the bitterness. Lightly hopped for incredible balance, it ends light, crisp and refreshing.
Saranac's 1888 Octoberfest is a true Octoberfest brewed with German hops, Perle and Saphir. This recipe has been with the Matt family for 4 generations. When FX Matt founded the company, he made it a point to only allow English to be spoken at the brewery. In his honor, we forgo the traditional German spelling of "Oktoberfest" and use the English spelling.
