Golden in color with a well balanced hop-flavor. The full rounded body is a superb balance between hops and a malty sweetness. Spaten is known as Munich's first brewery and for over 100 years the Spaten brewery has been one of the most important exporters of German beer. Spaten beers are the No. 1 selling authentic Bavarian beers in the United States, which means that the beers are completely unaltered. They are identical to the beer you would be served in Munich. All Spaten Beers adhere strictly to the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516. In 1810 construction of the first brew kettle at the Hallerbraustadel, the "factory", as it is called in the books, that Gabriel Sedlmayr released in 1808 at the west end of Neuhausestrasse. The kettle is only used to refine vinegar. Today at this site stands the Hertie department store.
