Communications Intern

Project Summary

The Communications Intern is responsible for assisting the Communications Manager with DeCrescente Distributing Company’s social media presence, public relations, and internal communications.

Essential Functions

Social Media

  • Assist the Communications Manager with creating and publishing social media content that effectively promotes DDC’s suppliers, customers, hiring and work culture. This can include photography, videography, on camera appearances, and graphic design, based on strengths.
  • Monitor social media accounts and engage with suppliers, customers, community events, etc.
  • Track and evaluate social media data to help steer future content.
  • Take the lead on our TikTok account during your internship.
  • Help organize and maintain video / photo archives.

Public Relations

  • Intern will assist the Communications Manager with gaining earned media as applicable. This includes but is not limited to: press release and media advisory writing, email / phone pitches, sending photos to press, etc.

Internal Communications

  • Intern will look for opportunities to create social media content for our Internal Instagram account, @39ViallAve
  • Intern will assist the Communications Manager with sending company communications, including event signups, new supplier news, committee communications and more.

Responsibility & Organization

  • Intern must be dependable and organized. They are expected to complete the tasks they are given and provide status updates to the Communications Manager.

Preferred Skills

  • Strong photography skills.
  • Experience with technology.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint preferred.
  • Adobe Photoshop or other photo editing software a plus.
  • Strong written communication skills are required.

Work/Shift Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or older to be considered for this position (due to handling and marketing alcohol).
  • Ability to work an agreed upon 20-40 hours per week based on requirements of your internship, with about 2-6 hours per week happening on nights and weekends.
  • Use and maintenance of company-issued computer and electronic devices.
  • Must speak to supervisor to notify him/her any time prior to the beginning of work shift when calling in sick. Voice mail or e-mail messages are not acceptable replacements.

Environment & Physical Demands

  • Work safely and follow all OSHA regulations and company safety policies and procedures.
  • For all on-the-job injuries or accidents, must notify Safety Officer, supervisor, and Human Resources immediately (no later than 1 hour)
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
