What’s the story behind the name?
Founded by four Irish American men, Katie O’Byrne was the grandmother of owner John P. Maloney. Katie was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1899. Her namesake is the inspiration for the pub, which prides itself on being a comfortable bar with tasty Irish American cuisine including Reubens, beer-battered fish and an Irish breakfast burger with corned beef, hash browns and a fried egg topping it off.
What’s the space like?
A large bar greets you on your way in the door. Irish flags and historical keepsakes adorn the walls, along with large display of law enforcement patches behind the bar. A spacious dining room sits to the left of the front entrance and outdoor seating is available seasonally. There’s a large private banquet room available to rent for showers, birthdays, retirement parties and more.
What can guests expect when they visit?
“You can expect a perfectly poured Guinness and the best corned beef in the Capital Region!” said Tommy Kennedy, General Manager at Katie O’Byrne’s. The pub often has musicians playing authentic Irish music and the writer of this article can vouch for how delicious their food is. “Our banquet room also delivers an intimate setting where we cater everything for you,” Kennedy added.
